Ever dreamt of driving round the world famous Isle of Man TT Course following in the footsteps of motorcycle greats such as Joey Dunlop and John McGuiness, then why not hire a VW California campervan from our Wigan depot and head on your trip to this wonderful island just a 3 hour ferry trip across the Irish Sea.

Pick your campervan up from our hire depot in Wigan and head north to the port of Heysham just 5 miles outside of Morecambe, where you will board the Ben-My-Chree the flagship liner that has been in service since 1989 and enjoy a relaxing evening sailing into Douglas Harbour.

Once you’ve parked up for the night and unpacked your belongings, relax in your campervan which is provided with all the items you need to make your hire a memorable one and take in the views of the promenade overlooking the harbour.

Start your island tour by driving south down the A5 to Castletown which was the historic capital of the island up until 1869. The town has narrow streets and small fishing cottages. Castle Rushen centrally located in the town and overlooking the harbour was originally built in 1265 for a Norse king, then fortified and added to by successive rulers.

Calf of Man
Head west towards Cregneash on the South West tip of the island. Here you will find the Calf of Man a small island separated from the mainland by a dangerous stretch of tidal water called the Calf Sound. Enjoy a cup of tea in your campervan overlooking the island and watch out for the 33 different species of birds that inhabit the calf. There is also a large seal colony that spend their days relaxing around the rocks.

Port Erin
Time to make your way north now just a 15 minute drive in your hire vehicle up to the seaside town of Port Erin. This picturesque town is nestled in a cove that during the warmer months is packed with visitors enjoying the sandy beach and fish and chip shops along the front.

Head north to the seaside town and fishing port of Peel and park your campervan on the front. The castle here is perched on the Cliffside and if you walk around the walls on a clear day you can see over to Ireland. Between the harbour and the castle there is a little inlet that draws many a visitor to its sandy beach. On the sea front there is the famous Davidsons Ice cream shop which sells an array of unusual flavoured ice cream.

Your hire vehicle is perfect for just relaxing in whilst watching the hustle and bustle of this lovely little island go by. Just park up and pop the electric roof up and this gives you space to stand up in and make a brew and a nice fry up.

Time to head onto the TT course now make your way out of Peel and head east in your campervan towards St johns Take the A3 up to Kirk Michael this follows the legendary race way all the way into Ramsey.

Stop off In Ramsey and take a stroll round Mooragh Park on the north side of Ramsey harbour. The park has a large boating lake which you can hire pedalo’s or canoes out to have a relaxing boat ride you may even see some small jellyfish which come in from the sea. There is a café on site as well and if you’ve taken the kids they will love the park and splash zone.

After a few hours walk round Ramsey head back on to the course and head towards the toughest corner on the track the Ramsey hairpin which leads up to the highest point on the island Snafell Mountian. Standing at over 2000 ft tall and on a clear day the locals say you can see the six kingdoms (England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man and Heaven). Park your campervan up and take a trip up the electric railway to the top where there is a café to admire the view.

It’s almost time to make your way back to Douglas and to catch you evening ferry back to Heysham. One last stop to make is a swift visit to Creg-Ny-Baa. When the TT races take place hundreds of fans make this there home for the day as the bikes reach speeds of over 150mph then have to slow down to around 30mph to go past this lovely little restaurant and bar. Sit outside admiring the views over the mountains and reminiscing about your hire of a campervan as you sit outside the bar.
