Have you ever wanted to take a trip through the Derbyshire Dales but wanted to do it in style, then why not hire a Campervan from us here at Easicampervan hire. You would pick your campervan up from either one of our Manchester depots which are just on the western outskirts of the Derbyshire countryside.
Once you’ve picked up your hire vehicle head east towards Sheffield and head over the Woodhead Pass. This is the main road between Manchester and Sheffield and is used by commuters and haulage firms to cut the travelling time to just under an hour instead of the two hours motorway travelling. Our campervans are ideal for the tight bendy roads in this lavish green countryside. Park up at the side of Rhodeswood Reservoir and enjoy the dramatic views whilst having a nice cup of tea/coffee whilst you plan your trips for the week ahead in your campervan.
Head into Sheffield to start your campervan trip. Visit the local shops and wander around this fantastic city. In the 19th century, Sheffield gained an international reputation for steel production. Known as the Steel City, many innovations were developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population in the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield is home to the oldest football club in the world Sheffield F.C they were founded in 1857 and still play to this day.
Once you’ve finished your walk around the 8th largest city in England head south back in to the peak district and head towards the district parish of Eyam which is home to just under a thousand parishioners. The village is noted for an outbreak of bubonic plague which occurred there in 1665, in which the villagers chose to isolate themselves rather than let the infection spread. It is commonly known as The Plague Village and thrives on the tourist trade.
If you’re into your wildlife the next stop on your campervan trip should be Carsington Water Nature Reserve. Run by the RSPB enjoy a nice relaxing stroll around this large nature reserve and take in the sights and sounds of nature at its finest. Since its construction, there have been over 215 bird species and over 30 mammal species recorded. There is a large visitor centre on site with a restaurant, cafe and shops, including an RSPB shop.
There are also extensive opportunities for outdoor activities including cycle hire, picnic areas, a climbing wall, adventure playground and sailing club. If its thrills and excitement you are after then why not drive down in your campervan and visit Alton Towers in the south of the Derbyshire dales. The site opened in 1860 with flower shows and garden tours the main attraction with just a small fairground and boating lake until a theme park was built on the site, opening in 1980. The theme park annually attracts over 2 million guests and they open a new ride on the site nearly every 12 months.
Your last stop off on the way back to drop your hire vehicle off is the 3 Peak district reservoirs these are just off the Snake pass which cuts through the dales just like the Woodhead pass and is used by commuters to cut the distance between Yorkshire and Manchester. Derwent Reservoir is the middle of three reservoirs in the Upper Derwent Valley in the northeast of Derbyshire The River Derwent flows first through Howden Reservoir, then Derwent Reservoir and finally through Ladybower Reservoir. Between them they provide practically all of Derbyshire’s water, as well as to a large part of South Yorkshire and as far afield as Nottingham and Leicester.
During the Second World War the reservoir was used by pilots of the 617 Squadron for practising the low-level flights needed for Operation Chastise (commonly known as the “Dam Busters” raids), due to its similarity to the German dams. Today there is a commemorative plaque to 617 Squadron on the dam, and one of the towers on the dam houses the Derwent Valley Museum. Park up your campervan and put up the outside table and chairs and enjoy the views across the wonderful scenery that this county has to offer.
