If you’re an outdoors person then Delamere Forest is perfect for you just make sure you wrap up warm and take your wellies and scarves with you and make the most of the wintery conditions and watch the snow fall as you have a nice cup of tea in your campervan.
Cheshire Ice Cream farm/ Beeston Castle and Woodland Park
Only 3 miles separate’s these two fabulous attractions half an hours drive from Manchester situated deep in the Cheshire countryside. The ice cream farm is perfect for keeping the little ones occupied. There is a system where you can purchase an amount of tickets and use them on certain attractions inside the farm. During the Christmas period why not visit Father Christmas in his grotto he is there on selected days and booking is necessary.
There are mini sand diggers, crazy golf course, mini quads, and a 100ft sand and water play area so even if it’s raining there’s somewhere for the adults to keep dry. There is a small farm and in the middle of the play area there is a tree that shoots foam out every 30 minutes. And obviously the main attraction is the endless amounts of homemade speciality flavoured ice cream that is made on site. Even in winter you can’t beat a bit of home made Ice cream.
At Beeston Castle why not walk round the ruins Climb to the top of the castle and peer down into the spiralling well below. This is one of the deepest castle wells in England, steeped in legend as the hiding place of Richard II’s lost treasure. Thought to be buried here in 1399 the treasure has been missing for centuries despite many attempts to find it. Take a walk round the woodland park here and enjoy the fresh winter air as you wander along the winding woodland paths surrounding the castle. You may even spot some peregrine falcons flying around the castle if you’re lucky.
No visit to Cheshire is complete until you see the ancient roman city of Chester just over the river Mersey( make sure you pay your toll crossing if you cross the New Mersey Gateway just an half hour’s drive in your campervan from Liverpool airport. Chester is right on the English/Welsh border and is one of the best preserved walled cities in the world. The more unusual landmarks in the city are the city walls, the Rows and the black-and-white architecture. The walls encircle the bounds of the medieval city and constitute the most complete city walls in Britain. The full circuit measuring nearly 2 miles long. They consist of buildings with shops or dwellings on the lowest two storeys. The shops or dwellings on the ground floor are often lower than the street and are entered by steps, which sometimes lead to a crypt-like vault. Just make sure you duck when you enter as the door ways are quite low.
Chester Zoo/Blue Planet Aquarium
Whilst you’re in your hire vehicle pop in the postcode and visit either one or both of these hugely popular visitor attractions. They are both just an over an hour’s drive from Liverpool Airport
Chester Zoo has been open since 1930 when the dreams of a young man came to fruition. He wanted to build a zoo without bars for the public. He purchased Oakfield House and 7 acres of land along with a few animals from a local zoo in Crewe. This was the beginning of a bright future for what is now the UK’s most popular Zoo. The site now covers over 500 acres of land including 125 acres of zoo, which house animals from all walks of life from Snakes and Meerkat’s to Elephants and Lions.
Running from the 24th November until the 30th December they have got a special treat on for all its customer. The Lanterns at Chester Zoo will be unlike anything you’ve experienced before. With incredible lanterns, performance and a sprinkle of Chester Zoo magic, it’s a perfect, heart-warming and memorable festive event for all generations.
The lantern route will be filled to the brim with sacks of lantern toys and boxes of lantern presents piled high. Father Christmas and his helpers will be hard at work ensuring that all of the Christmas wishes can come true.
Blue Planet Aquarium is located just a few miles in your campervan from Chester Zoo this was once the largest aquarium in the UK and was opened by Queen Elizabeth in 1998. It is home to Europe’s largest shark tank which if you like you can pay to dive with the sharks (this is a pre bookable activity). There are lots of activities and feeding sessions on during the day.
